WE'RE GOING IN CIRCLES!

05 January 2005

My second good act in this wholesome new year is to apologize to you for my first good act. In theory it seemed a good idea at the time, but in reality it came out a little bit too angry. I'm talking about the bitter rant that was last saturday's piece of text. You see, it's not that I'm really that angry at the world or anything. I certainly don't want to go and teach all of you a lesson. It just... happened, that's all. The words flowed out of me when I was writing and before I knew it I had the verbal equivalent of an angry fist shaking at the sky. So, sorry. If by some fluke of nature you were convinced by it and bettered your life; well, un-better it.

Today I made the error of going out shopping with four female relatives. So that meant hours of waiting in window displays (usually they have a few chairs in there) and hauling myself from the one generic clothing shoppe to the next even more generic clothing shoppe. I looked out on the street and saw that almost everyone was dressed the same. Casual, jeansy; not a bit of personal style or unusual accent to be seen, sticking out of the grey drab. Pity. Worst of all is that the choking straitjacket called 'fashion' of today is one of the worst ever. You think the eighties looked bad? I'm telling you, the zeroes of the current millennium will top that magnificently. Pointy shoes? Pointy boots? Pointy boots with mouldy jeans tucked into them?! Topped by slim bomberjacks with big, furry collars?!

WHAT THE HECK?! Has the world gone freaking berserk?! I am stumped beyond belief at the blindness of people! We all know that those exact people will look at themselves ten years from now and be ashamed to death for what they wore; excusing themselves by saying that ,,it was the trend of that time... eh...'. Is it merely their taste that has changed, maybe? Feh! Beauty does not change. What is beautiful, truly beautiful, now, will be so forever. But ugliness can become acceptable if you're seeing it every day. People don't reason anymore whether they think something is genuinely pretty or not. They just gulp down and swallow everything that Fashion says is trendy. Their complete disregard for true aesthetics shows them exactly for what they are: petty slaves. Finding comfort in their own enormous ranks, but silently pitied and laughed at by the well-thinking, self-sufficient elite. Among whom reside the designer gods that they themselves worship. How sad can you be, when the people you slavishly follow can do nothing but be repulsed by your own lack of creative vision?

Damn... I did it again!

Roderick.
